Flora Duffy says she remains hungry to achieve a top-five finish at future Commonwealth Games.
The Bermudian triathlete produced a superb performance in Glasgow to finish eighth, matching her performance in Melbourne in 2006 in what she described as a tougher field.
Duffy bravely attempted a number of breakaways when heading the leading bike pack but admitted she had nothing in her legs when it came to the run.
She told the Bermuda Sun: “I am really pleased with how the race played out. I knew the swim was going to split and how important it was to make the front group. Luckily I had a good swim and made the split.
“The bike course was tough which suited me, and we all worked hard together to establish a gap. I took quite a few turns on the bike, tried to break away but the break didn’t stick. On the run, I had no running legs. Sometimes that happens. Still it was great to run in front of a large crowd cheering the entire time.
“There is nothing like competing in a major games at the front of the race. I’m happy with the outcome but I’m still hungry to perform better and finish in the top five.”
