Commonwealth Games: 'I won't roll over', says Kyme

Bermudian squash player Nick Kyme will butt heads with former world number one James Willstrop in the first round of the Commonwealth Games men’s singles event.

For Kyme, this means a mixture of excitement at taking on the current world number six and second seed at the Games, and disappointment at facing a potential early defeat.

“It’s going to be great to play against him. Obviously I’m a little disappointed that my chances of proceeding at least through a round or two are less likely,” Kyme told the Bermuda Sun.

“I’m not just going to roll over for him, but there’s a reason he’s one of the top players in the world.”

Kyme and Willstrop have history with each other dating back to when they were junior players but despite that, Kyme was dubious about his prospects: “The key to beating him? Probably hitting him in the knee,” he said with a laugh. “My style of game is going to hopefully make him work for it. I don’t want to be off the court in 10 minutes.

“I’m going to try and stay on as long as I can.

“If I’m going to lose, I don’t want to lose to somebody nobody’s ever heard of, but at the same time the possibility of bouncing out very quickly is not exactly a dream.”

Fellow Bermudian Robert Maycock was also given a tough draw, being paired up with 10th seed Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan.
