Hailed as the International Edition, the event sees several overseas DJs joining forces with local DJs in an Old School v New School sound clash.
Wild Apache brings DJ Young Chow of New York’s Hot 97FM to perform on Team New School while DJ Reem of Champion Squad, Miami, will be spinning for Team Old School at the event that takes place at the Prison Officer’s Club parking lot in Dockyard on August 1.
Chow is from Trinidad and Tobago and organizers say he is the most requested DJ in the New York and Tri State area.
Also on Team New School is Massive B and Jabba. Rowan Ramotar of Wild Apache said: “The event features the biggest DJs and sounds in the game presently battling it out in different genres of music from old to new.
“No stranger to Bermuda, Jabba brings a level of energy in parties that is unmatched anywhere.
I have been asked to bring him here all year but was waiting for the right occasion.
Cup Match is perfect due to the energy he brings and everyone is in a party mood.”
The final member of Team New School is Bermuda’s own DJ Imega (see interview on page 25).
Imega is one of the most requested DJs on the island and will bring the hip hop segment which he is known for. Ramotar added:
“DJ Reem is currently Miami’s number one DJ — he will bring his remix skills that will be sure to be enjoyed by all.
Earthruler sound has been in the business for over 20 years. It is fitting to have him on Team Old School.” Finally, there’s Vibe 103’s own ‘Mr Throwback Thursdays’ DJ Chubb.
The venue will be transformed into a “massive outdoor club” according to Ramotar, with laser lights and other party lights.
He said: “We will have a huge disco ball as you drive up to the venue. As it is right by the roadside, everyone will see it.
Inside will have red and blue laser light reflecting the Cup Match team colours.
Reality Rentals are known to transform venues into an epic party atmosphere.
There will be lots of give-aways from our Heineken and Smirnoff sponsors. There will also be a special VIP section reserved for all Cup Match players from both teams.”
Cup Match Fever was launched “humbly” seven years ago and has grown into a solid Cup Match calendar event.
The party now averages between 1,000 to 1,400 guests Ramotar said: “We are able to attract a wide cross section of patrons because we play every genre of music from different eras.
Every year we have the same complaint from our patrons.
They always complain their feet hurt because of dancing all night.
I guess it’s a good thing. Such is the nature of this after party.” The event kicks off right after the game on Friday night and there will be ample parking at the Ireland Rangers Field which is a few minutes walk away from the venue.
For those who plan to park in Dockyard, there will be a free shuttle circling the Prison Officers Parking Lot and Dockyard all night.
There will be free transportation to and from the venue from the club and Dockyard only. Tickets are $40 advance.
Ticket outlets are Kit ‘n’ Caboodle, Jazzy Boutique, Just Platinum and Audio Visual in Somerset, and The Cave in St Georges. “We are sold out of early bird tickets. We urge everyone to come out early. “These guys are here to put on a show like no other,” said Ramotar.
