“I find it ironic that the Governor has rejected the motion to set up a Commission of Inquiry into historic land grabs yet what has happened with the waterfront as a result of the Municipalities Act is a modern day land grab.”

This coming from Opposition Leader Marc Bean as he says Governor George Fergusson’s recent decision is a culmination of 18 months of a series of actions that reflect the relationship between Government House and the One Bermuda Alliance Government.

“There has been a manifestation of non-decisions and non-actions taken,” Mr. Bean adds.

When asked why didn’t the Progressive Labour Party table the motion while it was in power, Mr. Bean retorts: “I don’t even think that’s worth responding to. Others who have spoken that are the same people who say the OBA is not the UBP. They are quick to deny the root which is core to their existence so to me, that’s a question that reflects inherent contradictions. It is hypocritical. But I will point out that Walton Brown was not a Member of Parliament while we were in power.”

Mr. Bean says at what point does one stop looking behind them? “It is expected that hasn’t been done in the past, will be done in the future.”

And while CARICOM has been advocating for reparations to be paid to its member countries, Mr. Bean says his party has no intentions to reach out to the organization regarding this matter: “In principle there is a correlation, but this is between the people of Bermuda and the Governor.”
