Wayne Caines has stepped down as CEO of Digicel Bermuda effective July 31.

Alistar Beak, Digicel Bermuda commercial director, will replace him as CEO.

Mr Caines will keep his connection to the company and has been appointed a non-executive vice chairman of the board.

Mr Caines has been CEO for the past six years.

In the press release, Mr Caines said: "It’s been a great six years. In that time, the business has gone from strength to strength and we have achieved a number of significant milestones including the launches of 4G and Digicel Business.  The island of Bermuda has one of the highest data penetrations in the world and I am proud to have been a part of that innovation drive.”

In his new role, Mr Beak will report to Claudio Hidalgo, COO for the Caribbean and Central America. A telecoms industry veteran, he has worked all over the world in senior roles for Vodafone including stints in Qatar, the Czech Republic and the UK. Prior to that, he owned and operated a marketing services business.

Mr Beak said: “I am delighted with this opportunity to step into the role of CEO for Digicel Bermuda.  In my short time with the company, I’ve seen first-hand what a dynamic and passionate group of individuals we have at Digicel and look forward to continuing the great work of Wayne and the team. As always, our focus will be on ensuring that our customers benefit from our commitment to deliver the best of the best to them.”

Mr Hidalgo, added: "I would like to congratulate Wayne on his move. He has done a great job in Bermuda where he has been instrumental in building and cementing Digicel’s position as a full service telecommunications provider. I would like to thank him for his service to date and to wish him all the best for his new role on the board which I know he will make a great success of. Likewise, I would like to congratulate Alistair on his promotion and am confident that he will continue to deliver on our promise to the people of Bermuda of best value, best service and best network.”
