A 25-year-old St George’s woman today denied assaulting and threatening a police officer after she was arrested for stealing chips and a soda.
Tenora Steede appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning where she pleaded guilty to stealing a bag of chips and ginger ale soda to the value of $3.90 from St David’s Variety Store on January 27.
She denied violently resisting arrest, threatening an officer and assaulting him.
The court heard Steede went into the store with a black bag and was seen taking the bag of chips and soda. When confronted by an employee, she said she wasn’t going to pay for the items and left.
Police were called and found Steede at the St David’s Dock drinking the soda. An empty bag of chips was next to her.
The officers asked Steede to go with them to the store to sort out the matter. The defendant allegedly refused and began to kick and punch the officers.
Steede allegedly said: “I will get men to kill you. You don’t know who you are dealing with”.
The court heard Steede continued to kick the officers even after being placed in a police car and had to be subdued.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner adjourned the matter for trial on the charges where Steede pleaded not guilty.
She was remanded in custody until February 12.
