The 10 staff made redundant now face the unenviable task of trying to find new employment in this economy.
The latest Labour Force Employment Survey shows that seven per cent of people are out of work.
One of the 10 let go at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess told the Bermuda Sun that job prospects are not good.
“It’s going to be a struggle for all of us looking for another job. I would do anything. I love the hotel industry.”
The staff member said finding out they were made redundant last week “floored” them.
“We were all aware with the renovations going on and the possibility of the hotel getting closed down, but we also asked about our jobs, but was never given a straight answer.
“I love the hotel and I love the industry, but it was just the way it was done.”
The worker felt the staff should have been given more notice so they could start looking for work elsewhere, rather than the short notice given by the Fairmont.
The person said the staff were basically told: “Due to restructuring we don’t need your job anymore.”
And the staff member said the top item on the to do list “is write up your resume and start getting it out there. There is the fear of not being able to find anything”.
