The island’s fuel supplies will be bolstered this week with the arrival of the tanker Stena Conqueror.

While yesterday’s much larger consignment of new Japanese vehicles bodes well for the car industry.

The Aegean Highway arrived in the capital at first light to make the delivery of 144 new automobiles.

The number of vehicles being brought into Bermuda this month is a significant increase to recent batches that have been brought in from Asia of no more than a few dozen.

The car carrier was in port for just a few hours as the new machines were driven off the vessel.

The Somers Isles container vessel will follow her into Hamilton today from Florida. Tomorrow the Islander will arrive in the capital with 100 full containers.

On Friday the tanker, Stena Conqueror, is scheduled to come alongside at the Oil Docks in St George’s. She will be siphoning off fuel for Esso before she heads for her next Caribbean port of call.

And last but not least, the tug, Michael McAllister and barge, Gale Force, were eventually able to make it off the island at the weekend.

The two vessels had been stuck up at Dockyard waiting for a weather window for more than two weeks.
