Sir Ben Ainslie, who was in Bermuda last year to race in the Argo Group Gold Cup Challenge, believes he is a step closer to assembling a British team for the America’s Cup.
Ainslie played a pivotal role in the 2013 series that has gone down as arguably the most-watched and most-dramatic America’s Cup in history.
At 8-1 down most had written off Team USA’s chance with Team New Zealand requiring just one more win.
But Ainslie was drafted in as tactician and inspired a monumental turnaround as Team USA took the title in San Franciso. The 36-year-old said he was still working hard to bring everything together in order for there to be a British team.
“We’ve been working incredibly hard since last September to get the financing together, both privately and commercially and that's been going really well,” he told BBC Radio 5 live.
“The big issue with the next America’s Cup is waiting to find out what the rules are for the event and we should find more out about that this spring.
“Until we get those rules and have a much better idea of what we’re up against then we can't ultimately commit until then.”
