The Bermuda Gymnastics Association girls team earned a superb win at the Abie Grossfeld Invitational in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Four of Bermuda’s senior team members and head coach Duke Nelligan travelled to compete in the Level 9 USA Gymnastics competition and came out on top in the team’s first off-island competition of 2014.
In the individual events, Sydney Mason (15, BHS) earned first place overall in her age group and was also first on floor. Clara James (14, BHS) won the gold on uneven bars and the bronze on balance beam.
Danielle Wall, 14, also a BHS student, won the balance beam title and was third in the floor Exercise.
In the junior division, Anna Francoeur (11, Warwick Academy) earned first place on Floor and third in the all-around.
Coach Nelligan said in a press release: “The girls had errors here and there, but were attempting new skills that they are looking to master by upcoming meets.
"The entire senior team travels on February 7 for the Chicago Style Invitational, one of the largest and most prestigious meets in the U.S, while Clara
James and Danielle Wall are also preparing to travel to the first major international event of their careers, the Junior Pan American Championship, held in Brazil, from March 26-30.”
