It’s a major step in the advancement of human rights causes for Bermuda.
Summaries of Bermuda constitutional and human rights cases, and relevant international treaties and conventions, are now available to the general public online.
People can go to www.justice.bm to find a listing of the cases. The cases can be accessed by date, topic and name. This material will be updated regularly.
This has been a major initiative by the Centre for Justice aimed at improving access to justice.
Venous Memari, director for the Centre for Justice, said in a release: “For members of the public who are not lawyers, this should be valuable information.
“At times, the law can be daunting to the non-lawyer, and yet it is our system of justice that protects our rights. We believe that access to and understanding of our legal system is essential to protect human rights and access to justice.”
In addition, the Centre for Justice has developed a legal library at its office at The Armoury Building on Reid Street.
Although books will not be permitted out on loan, copies may be made.
All are welcome to visit the library, which will be open between 10am and 4pm.
