Driver admits injuring family

A 60-year-old man today admitted injuring a family-of-five by driving without due care.

David Correia was driving on Middle Road in Southampton at 11:19am on August 3 heading east when he swerved into the westbound lane.

As a result, Correia hit a car with five people, including Duawne Starling, his wife Carmen and their three daughters.

Correia suffered injuries during the accident as well as everyone in the other car. The injuries were not specified in court but none of them were life threatening.

All six people were taken to hospital and received treatment.

Today, Correia pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to Mr Starling, Mrs Starling and one of their daughters by driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention.

The matter was adjourned to January 29 for sentencing where the full extent of the injuries and medical bills will be presented to the court.

Correia was granted $5,000 bail with one surety.

Mr Starling is a well-known American inspiration/gospel singer who has performed in Bermuda numerous times. His wife is Bermudian.
