A British woman today admitted importing $60,000 of cannabis resin into Bermuda.
Lauren Davis, 24, initially denied the charge when she appeared last month and was remanded into custody.
Today, she changed her plea.
The court heard Davis left Bermuda on November 8 headed for Gatwick, and returned on November 14. When she arrived, she cleared immigration and collected her black duffle bag.
At the customs line, Davis had a 'nothing to declare' form and walked out of the airport with her bag. She was then seen getting into a private car.
The car was stopped heading west and Davis was arrested on suspicion of importing drugs. At the Hamilton Police Station, a drugs officer introduced himself to Davis and asked her if the black duffle bag belonged to her.
He then asked her where the drugs were. Davis said: “In the case”.
The cannabis was found inside a black binder wrapped in three blue plastic bags. The court heard the amount was 608.81 grams, worth just over $60,000 in Bermuda.
Crown counsel Takiyah Burgess told the court Davis is unemployed and has no previous convictions.
At her hearing last month, the court heard she was a stylist at Strands and the job was terminated as a result of these charges.
Davis sat silent in the dock dressed in orange during the hearing.
Her lawyer, Marc Daniels requested an adjournment for sentencing until next week. Davis was remanded until then.
