A Southampton woman had to be ambulanced to the hospital after a hit and run accident on Victoria Street New Year's Day.
Police say they responded to an accident report at 2:30am on Wednesday outside of the Victoria Grill on Victoria Street.
A police spokesperson said: "It appears that a 20-year-old Southampton woman was walking across the street where she was communicating with a taxi driver, when she was hit by a man driving a car. The man stopped briefly then got into his vehicle and drove off. The Southampton woman was then taken to the hospital by the ambulance were she was treated for severe road rash and a broken collar bone."
The spokesperson added that 30 minutes later police stopped a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle in the hit and run driving along Harbour Road in Paget.
"The vehicle was stopped and the 23-year-old driver’s breath smelled of intoxicants. He was arrested and detained. A full investigation into this incident has commenced."
