Take time to rest and allow God to speak to you

Take time to rest and allow God to speak to you
Take time to rest and allow God to speak to you

At the beginning of a new year, time can be very deceiving. It is as if one is at the beginning of 365 days knowing that there are 364 days left, and yet the truth of the matter is that time is not promised to any man.

Indeed, there were many who began January 1, 2013, and did not make it to see January 2014.

Time is a limited entity.

The big challenge is are you respecting time, and what are you doing with your time?

Be assured of this, that for every one of us, time will eventually turn into eternity.

Time management

In the beginning of all things, that is, at Creation, God established the principle of time or the regiment of time management.

In other words, God instituted that in the space of a day, the greater sun would be positioned high in the sky, and you would use that portion of time to work.

Then, later on in that same day, God set in place that the minor lights would appear and that’s when you rest.

The Bible encouraged us to make use of time with such verses as:

John 9:4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

Job 14:1-2: 1 Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble.

2 He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.

Isaiah 40:8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

The fact of the matter is that, in your youth, you think you have all the time in the world.

Yet, there will come a time when you recognize that there is less time ahead of you than there is behind you.

Well, I bring this sobering thought to your mind in order that you will understand the urgency of time and timing.

There are simply some things that must be attended to right now and cannot wait for another time.

Let me add that God needs no time.

God is beyond time, He is above time, He made time, and He made time for mankind.

Therefore, when God deals with mankind, God keeps time in mind.

Let me give you a quick example. God has been dealing with the hearts of mankind for thousands of years.

Yet, when God deals with you, it is not over the course of a thousand years, it is somewhere in the space of perhaps a few months or a couple of years because you only have so much time.

That is why it is important that when you feel God tugging at your heart, you ought to move immediately! Why?

Because there is no guarantee that you will feel that way in your lifetime ever again.

Hence a scripture like Hebrews 3:8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness.

The moment that you harden your heart, like the people of Israel in the wilderness, God is saying that He cannot reach your heart and touch it to change it.

Matthew 1: 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.

20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

Joseph was perplexed about being espoused to Mary who was pregnant with a child that was not his.

He was understandably questioning what he should do next.

The pregnancy would only last at most nine months.

However, that pregnancy would probably be known about and begin to show very soon.

Alignment

Therefore, the God who relates to mankind in time, moved quickly to get Joseph in alignment with His will because time was of the essence.

Therefore, God spoke to Joseph as he slept.

God dealt with the inner workings of the mind and will of Joseph while he was not in control.

Joseph was “under”; he was not conscious.

God used that time of rest so that Joseph could rest assured that what was going on was of God, by God, and through God.

Hence, when Joseph awoke from this rest, he was at peace with what he must do.

That is what a rest in God will do. It will set your mind at ease even during uneasy situations.

In this New Year 2014, rest more.

Rest and let God do what only He can do.

Then wake up and obey the Word of God. Selah. RESPICE FINEM.
