The first round of the 31st Annual Aon Benfield Fecchio Cup took place yesterday at Port Royal Golf Course in blustery conditions.

With the weather conditions expected to be worse for today’s round two, the players were keen to get a solid score under their belts.

In the 16–18 division, Cory DeSilva held his nerve best in the wind and turned in a solid round of 6 over par 77 to lead the way.

Sam Wehmeyer recovered from a triple bogey start to finish the day one back after a 7 over par 78.

Cory and Sam have put a little daylight between themselves and the rest of the field with newcomer Mykal Donkin leading the chasing pack and sitting in third place after a round of 87.

Arriek Douglas struggled to adjust back to Bermuda’s hills and winds, finishing with 92.

The 13–15 division remains tight heading into day two, with Mikus Ming taking a slim two shot lead after a first round of 81.

Mikus had the low round of all divisions going through the front nine at one-over par, but a few hiccups on the back nine brought him back to the field.

Port Royal members Alex Mason and Brady Cordeiro put their local knowledge to good use with 83 and 84 respectively.

Joining Brady in third place is Kheary Swan. Dakota Lamb is only one stroke further back after an 85 and Joe Waters will be looking to make up a few shots tomorrow after his round of 88, still only seven shots behind. Benjamin Barnett rounds out the division after a round of 96.

The open red division saw Luke Watson show no signs of rust from his time in boarding school, promptly dispatching a long, straight drive down off the first tee.

Luke continued his fine play for the whole round, turning in a fine score of 91.

Kenny Leseur is threatening to find his form again after a round of 97 was marred by a couple of bad holes.
