The island welcomed its first baby of 2014 shortly after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
A tired but excited Tomika Pacheco said she was overjoyed at the birth of her healthy first born, Farrah Natalia Kaye Pacheco.
“I can’t really explain what I’m feeling,” said the 25-year-old event planner from Warwick, as she was surrounded by her family in a room at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital on Wednesday.
Farrah weighed in at 8 pounds flat and is 20 inches long. She was born two days past her due date, and in an effort to induce labor, Tomika’s parents encouraged her to walk up and down a hill on New Year’s Eve. The plan apparently paid off. Tomika’s water broke about three hours into the New Year. She hopes to leave the hospital in two days.
“Just to look at her, it makes you feelsomething,” said Tomika’s husband and Farrah’s father, Flavio, a 30-year-old landscaper. “It makes you happy.”
