The pilot boat St David was called into action yesterday as rough seas and high winds threatened a tall ship’s arrival in Bermuda.
The Tres Hombres, which is not fitted with an engine, sailed into the east end around 8am.
But the crew called for assistance in making it through Town Cut because the winds were gusting to around 40 knots.
The pilot boat was sent out to rendezvous with the vessel.
The tall ship was then towed in on a rope through Town Cut and brought alongside at Penno’s Wharf.
The Tres Hombres was on her way from the Dominican Republic to the Azores when she called into Bermuda for the scheduled stop.
She is expected to remain in St George’s for the next few days and leave the island on March 3.
