Jennifer Gazzard treated the bermuda.com Facebook photo contest like an election and it paid off.
Earlier this month the Smith’s parish resident campaigned mightily in the Bermuda.com Pink Sand Beach photo contest and, as a result, won in a landslide vote — taking home a three-night stay at the Rosewood Tucker’s Point Resort as the grand prize.
“I annoyed everyone on my (Facebook) friends list on a daily basis,” Mrs. Gazzard said of her campaign strategy.
She endured some friendly heckling from her husband, David, but reminded him he would not be complaining when they are lapping up the luxury at Tucker’s Point.
Mrs Gazzard competed against about 100 other photo entries in the contest.
Contestants were encouraged to recruit their friends and family for votes in what became a social media popularity contest on the Bermuda.com Facebook page.
Jennifer Gazzard won with 174 votes. The second place vote getter had 63, less than half the first-place finisher.
The winning photo was taken at John Smith’s Bay in 2012 and features Mrs Gazzard’s stepchildren Taylor, now 14, and Jack, now 8 years old, lying in the pink sand on the picture-friendly shoreline. The beach has traditionally been a popular family hangout because the Gazzards live nearby.
Despite that proximity, though, the couple has never spent a night at Tucker’s Point. Mrs. Gazzard says she is very much looking forward to redeeming her prize and will take her husband along, forgiving him for heckling her well-run campaign.
