Shirley Temple in Bermuda
Young star: The death of Shirley Temple at 85 this week sparked memories of the Hollywood star’s 1938 visit to Bermuda.
She was 10 when crowds greeted her arrival on the Queen of Bermuda. Staff Captain Stanley Burns, grandfather of TV and radio presenter Mike Bishop, is seen here escorting her off the ship. He had organized an ice-cream party for her.
“I understand she was treated quite royally on board,” Mr Bishop told us. “There was a lot of excitement, too, as she was a huge film star at the time.” *Photo courtesy of Mike Bishop
