Gabby Vincent stole the show for the Bermuda Gymnastics Association team at the Chicago Style Invitational at the weekend.

Vincent claimed gold in both vault and bars in the 16-years-and-over Level 9 competition.

It was the first time in six years, the BGA had sent a team to the event, which is known as the largest gymnastics meet in the world and features top clubs from all over the US as well as Puerto Rico, Canada and Guatemala.

Far from overawed, though, Bermuda recorded their most-successful performance in Chicago, winning 12 medals overall.

Head coach Duke Nelligan said in a press release: “The results are truly a reflection of the progress of our programme.

“There were over 4,000 gymnasts at this competition, the most ever, and our gymnasts were right in the running.

“We have used the Island Games as a stepping  stone to raise our training commitment and reach a higher level of skill.

“This is the first sign that we are on track with our preparations for the Junior Pan Ams and Commonwealth Games.”

In the level 9 meet, medals were also won by Tabytha Hofheins (vault, bars, beam), Danielle Wall (vault, floor), Sydney Mason (vault), and Clara James (vault).

In addition to her vault and bars golds, Vincent also medalled in the all-around. Zantae Dill and Anna Francoeur had strong showings in the level 9 round but finished just out of the medals.

The Level 7 competitors Ava Marshall and Gianna Webbe both earned medals on the uneven bars, finishing 15th and seventh in their respective age groups.
