The Houston Chronicle has edited their Olympic opening ceremony coverage in which they disparaged Bermudians.
The Chronicle, which the Bermuda Sun reported on its round up of comments from news organizations around the globe, said: "Team Bermuda walked into the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics like they owned the place, wearing matching blazers, bright red Bermuda shorts and knee-high socks, a nod to their country’s proud tradition of looking like idiots."
That report has now since been amended by deleting "a nod to their country’s proud tradition of looking like idiots."
The Chronicle's report had upset many.
Barbara-Anne Thorne posted on the Bermuda Sun's Facebook page: "Of all of the negative comments, I found the Houston Chronicles comment to be offensive."
Kathryn Witte Thoma said on Facebook: "They're just jealous! Proud of Bermuda!"
Fox Sports thought the island marching in in Bermuda shorts deserved the gold medal.
The Chronicle, like several news organizations, had misidentified the Cayman team as being from Bermuda (Cayman also walked in wearing shorts). But the error most-likely stemmed from a Getty image which was put out on the wire saying it was Bermuda. Getty corrected that caption on the photo shortly afterwards.
