Swimmers jet off for Florida ‘Death Camp’
Twelve of Bermuda’s most promising swimmers fly to Florida today for a week-long training camp.
The trip is an intensive training and team building exercise. It is the fourth camp of its kind, with the first one in 2001 when Roy Allen Burch and Lisa Blackburn took part.
National coach Ben Smith has organized the workouts, while physio Dominique Nanette will provide poolside massages and assist with land training. The young swimmers have labelled the trip ‘Death Camp’ in recognition of the gruelling work that lies ahead. Each will have ‘Death Camp 4’ t-shirts to wear.
Beth Harrington is team manager for the camp, while parent Janice Irby will assist.
