Bermuda’s titans of Twittersphere - January

There was a major shakeup in the Bermuda Sun’s Twitter rankings this month. Nine names entered January’s list, which were missed in December.

In addition, Twitter suspended one person’s account.

Also, Twitter is rounding up numbers after a person’s account gets to 10,000 followers.

New entries include muti-talented Devaune Ratteray (#6), ACE Group (#13), singer and former Bermuda Idol winner Twanee (#15), XL Insurance (#20), DJ Vibes (#31), UmUm Magazine (#34), singers Torrie (#35) and Propa (#36) and triathlete Flora Duffy (#44). 

Mr Ratteray was born and raised in Bermuda, but is currently based in London. He is signed with the Downtown Artists label, but is also an actor and dancer. 

Dropping out of the top 10 and off the list completely is Elbow Beach Cycles (@bermudascooter). An attempt to access the account on Monday received the message the account is suspended.

On the December list, @Bermudascooter had 16,165 followers.

Twitter’s Help Centre says: “Accounts are generally suspended for violations of the Twitter Rules. We also may suspend accounts for investigation if we suspect an account has been hacked or compromised.”

The biggest gainers for the month were Fox commentator and former WWE wrestling champ John Layfield with 20,000 added to his fold and footballer Nahki Wells, who gained more than 4,000 followers after joining Huddersfield.

Fakers

There were a few complaints from the December list that some accounts had fake followers which inflated their numbers.

One person tweeted: “If they have a lot of eggheads, that’s a sign.”

The Sun ran the top eight from Bermuda list through the Status People website at www.twitteraudit.com

Twitter Audit methodology: “Each audit takes a random sample of 5,000 Twitter followers for a user and calculates a score for each follower. This score is based on number of tweets, date of the last tweet, and ratio of followers to friends. We use these scores to determine whether any given user is real or fake. Of course, this scoring method is not perfect but it is a good way to tell if someone with lots of followers is likely to have increased their follower count by inorganic, fraudulent, or dishonest means.”

Thumbs down

Only one account came back with a red thumbs down and that was Fiyah Marshall with 69 per cent listed as fake followers. 

Every Twitter account will show up with fake followers. The Daily Mail ran President Barack Obama’s through www.fakers.statuspeople.com and reported he had 19.5 million fakers. My account has 54 fakers (or otherwise 88 per cent pure).

According to Twitter Audit, the two accounts among the top eight with the highest percentage of real followers were Ledrew Fox with 94 per cent and Platinum Bonita with 93 per cent.
