An injured sailor was rushed into Bermuda in the early hours of yesterday morning to receive urgent medical attention.

The Greek chief officer was hurt on board the MT Poetic as the giant tanker made her way from Nigeria to the Philippines.

The crewmember was taken off the tanker by the pilot boat around 3am and brought into St George’s to a waiting ambulance.

Most diverted ships rendez-vous with the pilot boat at Five Fathom Hole off St David’s.

But due to the size and turning circle of the Poetic, the pilot boat had to travel a further three miles out to sea to pick up the injured sailor.

The arrival of the crewman came just hours after three other sailors, whose yacht sank more than 900 miles off of Bermuda, were brought onto the island by a different tanker that plucked them to safety.

Tuesday also saw the arrival of the car carrier Southern Highway into Hamilton as well as a crew transfer on board the Highland Fortress off the East End.

The transfer involved 13 new crew boarding the supply ship while 10 were brought back into Bermuda to be flown home.

Today, the Ruby Princess cruise liner arrives in Hamilton for a short stop on her way to Lisbon in Portugal.

She’s only in town for a matter of hours and is due to leave the island this afternoon.

Tomorrow, the Celebrity Summit makes her first trip to Bermuda of the 2014 schedule.

She will remain in Dockyard for the duration of a one-night-stay before returning Cape Liberty.

Finally, the Bermuda Islander is back in Hamilton tomorrow, and the Oleander will make up the schedule for this week arriving in the capital on Sunday afternoon. n
