Dage Minors deserves to medal in his final Carifta Games.

That’s the view of Bermuda National Athletics Association president Donna Watson.

Minors will compete in the 1,500m and 5,000m in  Martinique from Saturday April 19 and Watson says the runner is due some Carifta glory.

She told the Bermuda Sun that Kyrah Scraders is an obvious choice to add to her gold at last year’s Carifta but that Minors is on track to do something similar.

“Dage is running excellent,” she said.

“This is his last Carifta and he has never won a medal so it would be a great way to go. And the time he ran in the 5,000m last weekend would have won him gold last year — he won 15:23 and last year it was won in 16 something.

“I would love to see Dage come out with a medal. He puts in the work and he’s had a good season so far.”

As for the reast of the 13-strong team, Watson said there is medal potential everywhere you look.

“Sakari [Famous] is jumping well in the high jump. She has jumped a pb of 1.70m, and previous to that Shaki’s best was 1.60m. If I look at the results from last year then she should definitely be in the top three.

“Then we have Jahnai  [Perinchief] is really jumping well in high and triple jump, David Darrell and Michaiah [Robinson], who  placed fourth last year in the 800m.

“David Darrell is really running well —  I think they should both make the finals in the eight. I’d like to see, if not both, then at least one of them on the  podium.

“Chas [Smith] is doing well in the triple and long jump. He’s in school in Canada, it’s his last year also and it would be nice to see him medal.

“Then you have Justin Donowa. It’s kind of an unknown with him because he was playing football until just after Christmas so he’s only just started his track season. But he shines when it comes to competiion. He thrives on it.”
