Draw strength from your journey
The Baltimore Blast season is six weeks away and it will be another battle since we will be the defending champions for the seventh time.
It’ll be another journey. However, the column this week will not be from my experiences or journey but from a young lady in Bermuda not to be named.
She is not an athlete but I’m sure everyone will relate to her story. Here it is: “Everyone is on a journey, whether you want to believe it or not.
“The steps that you take are the pages in your unwritten journal. At the end of the day, what do you want to be written about you?
“Just like the journey, we all have strengths that we hardly recognize. We go through things, and the way we handle them or the fact that were even handling them at all is a testament to our strength.
“I've gone through a lot of things in life. And I would hear that I was strong and dispute it. I didn't believe it was me at all. But the fact that I had children, I didn't have a choice in the matter.
“I had to be like NIKE and Just Do It! While I’m not an athlete, I liken my journey to that of one. Life to me was do or die, and no one was going to be dying around here.
“Did I want my children to see me as a failure? Of course not. So I had to draw from an inner strength that I didn’t even know I had.
“Instead of taking the smooth road, we’d go through mountains and valleys, on roads unpaved and rocky and the ride was often uncomfortable. I’m about to embark on yet another unknown journey. And while I’m absolutely terrified of where I’m going, I’m more terrified of not going. The strength that I have is not mine but from that of my kids.”
The journey to our success in life will create many fears. Make sure you believe you are special and empower yourself by having people around you that know what it takes to succeed and how to handle the pain from sacrifice.
Until next time!
