Fire fighters have sported pink this week in a show of support for a colleague who beat breast cancer.
More than 100 rank and file firemen and women as well as the top officers donned pink shirts to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Donna Hendrickson’s brave fight against the disease.
Ms Hendrickson, who has worked as an emergency medical dispatcher for the service for 10 years, approached her bosses about the initiative in a bid to raise funds and awareness of the condition.
She told the Bermuda Sun: “When I was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in 2009 I was overwhelmed with the support of my family and friends and my family in the fire
service.
“So this year I wanted to do something to raise funds and awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“Part of the proceeds from the pink shirts will go to Bermuda Cancer
and Health.
“I hear that the shirts are already getting a very positive reaction when the fire crews are out and about.” n
