Brunch at Blu Bar and Grill has been completely revamped, offering guests a new option.
The full brunch buffet is now no more, replaced with an a la carte menu with an appetizer and dessert buffet.
With menu items such as Eggs Benedict, Scrambled Eggs with Smoked Salmon, Codfish and Potatoes with all the trimmings, Beef Petite Tender with Arugula and Marsala Sauce and Shanghai Chicken, there is plenty of variety.
I ordered the Beef Petite Tender with Mashed Potatoe and my partner ordered Slow-Grilled Beef Short Ribs with Hand Cut Fries.
We both had a glass of mimosa before heading down to the appetizer
buffet.
There were lots of salads to choose from including Caprese, Greek Salad, a Bean Salad, regular mixed greens and many more.
There was also a smoked fish on crostini, grilled vegetables, a Chinese style mini buffet with pot stickers and some kind of chicken.
A variety of sushi and a beautiful cheese plate rounded out the appetizer selections.
I had a little bit of everything and the stand out item was by far the smoke fish crostini. It was creamy and salty and thanks to a sprinkling of red pepper flakes, there was a punch of heat.
By the time our mains arrived, I was looking forward to digging into a steak.
The petite tender came sliced with a marsala sauce on the side and mashed potatoes.
The meat was incredibly tender. While it wasn’t the most tasty piece of meat I’ve ever had, it was grilled beautifully.
The mashed potatoes were okay, nothing to write home about.
My partner loved his beef short rib. The meat was falling off the bone and the hand cut fries were crispy. I ate the majority of them.
For dessert, I over-indulged at the dessert buffet with crème brulee, a chocolate fudge cake, bread pudding and chocolate mousse.
The mousse was rich and chocolaty, the cake was incredibly dense and fudgy, a chocolate lover’s dream. The bread pudding was traditional the sauce doused over the top was especially good.
The crème brulee was my least favourite because the top wasn’t hard so there was no cracking it.
Overall, this was a very good meal. I’m not sure I prefer the new brunch to the old, but I think it is a great idea.
I do wish there were more breakfast type options on the menu such as waffles and pancakes. Steak and eggs would have been nice.
Sunday Brunch at Blu is $39.75 per person plus tax and includes a glass of champagne or mimosa on arrival.
