For ten consecutive years, Bermudian hotelier and owner of Coco Reef Resorts Ltd., John Jefferis, has accepted the World Travel Award (WTA) for “Caribbean’s Leading Hotel” on behalf of his property in Tobago. Mr. Jefferis also owns sister property Coco Reef in Bermuda. Against 17 other nominees, Coco Reef – Tobago beat out several other highly regarded properties including the Four Seasons Resort Nevis, West Indies; Sandy Lane, Barbados; and Jumby Bay, A Rosewood Resort, Antigua.

World Travel Awards President and Founder Graham Cooke said: “Coco Reef Resort & Spa has done it again! Taking the title of Caribbean’s Leading Hotel for the tenth successive year, in a run of success dating back to 2004. Our voters know something special when they see it.

“It gives me particular pleasure to present this award to my close friend John Jefferis, owner of the resort. Not only has he worked closely with World Travel Awards over the past decade, he is one of the true pioneers in Caribbean tourism. We wish him every success for the future.”

World Travel Awards celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and is acknowledged across the globe as the ultimate travel accolade, celebrating those companies, organisations and brands that are pushing the boundaries of industry excellence in product and service. The Wall Street Journal described the World Travel Awards as the Oscars of the travel industry.

The winners are chosen via online voting generated by a year-long communications campaign that encourages global participation. The votes come from qualified executives working within travel and tourism and the consumer travel buyer.

“It’s tremendously rewarding to reach this milestone of ten straight wins for Coco Reef – Tobago,” said Mr. Jefferis. “Although I continue to invest millions of dollars in the resort every year, our guests clearly indicate that our success is due to the dedication, professionalism and genuine friendliness of the wonderful management and staff at the Coco Reef Resort in Tobago, who consistently exceed our guests’ expectations with regards to service and providing an unforgettable experience.”

Mr. Jefferis developed Coco Reef – Tobago 17 years ago. Like his hotel in Bermuda, Coco Reef – Tobago features a dramatic lobby and unique architecture that reflect the local surroundings. The exquisite $2,000 per night Sunset Villa at Coco Reef - Tobago, with its marble bathrooms and 24-karat gold fittings, has been frequented by innumerable celebrities including; Sylvester Stallone, Rod Stewart and Diana Ross. The Tobago property, which has 150 rooms and suites, is situated on its own private beach surrounded by 10 acres of beautifully manicured tropical gardens.

Following in its big sister’s footsteps, Coco Reef – Bermuda opened in 2004 and consists of 70 rooms situated on a spectacular beachfront location. The hotel features an award-winning atrium lobby, two restaurants with fabulous views and exotic private dining facilities.
