Man accused of using internet to groom young girls
A 22-year-old man was today charged with using Facebook to try to get young girls to have sex with him.
The Hamilton Parish man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of communicating with two girls, aged 11 and 14 by means of telecommunication with the purpose of having unlawful carnal knowledge between May 27 and July 31.
The defendant was also charged with intruding on the privacy of those same two girls between the same dates.
He is further accused on intruding on the privacy of a 16-year-old girl and a 19-year-old woman between May 2012 and July 2013.
Crown counsel Susan Mulligan told the court the defendant allegedly set up a fake Facebook account and used it to message the girls, as well as his Facebook page and his girlfriend’s.
The defendant was remanded into custody until November 1.Â
