Justin Rose at times played some sublime golf at Port Royal.
But there was a feeling that in Adam Scott, the crowd were watching a prelude to the next seven to eight years at the top of the men’s game.
Star dust, X-factor, whatever you want to call it, watching the Australian come from behind to win the PGA Grand Slam of Golf so clinically proved, if proof were needed, that this man has it in spades. His mesmerizing approach to 17 was like watching a computer game.
By the game’s nature, there are plenty of other guys coming into their peak, Rose for one, and there’s always the presence of a certain Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.
But Scott, if he can deal with the outlawing of the anchored putter in 2016, looks to have everything in place to add to his Masters triumph. A class act.
