Tyler Butterfield emulated his dad to finish the iconic Ironman World  Championship in Hawai’i in seventh place.

Jim Butterfield achieved the same feat back in 1981 and Tyler proved that those awe-inspiring endurance genes have been passed down a generation with a fantastic showing.

Bermuda’s two-time Olympian Butterfield came out of the water in 27th place but soon went about moving through the field during the 112-mile bike ride, which is his strongest discipline.

He faded over the final bike section but still began the marathon in seventh spot.

Amazingly, he managed a sub-three hour run to maintain his position — his  2hr 58min 22sec run eclipsing his dad’s 3:05:08 32 years ago.

Butterfield finished 11 minutes and 40 seconds behind winner Frederik Van Lierde, who finished in a time of 8:12:29.
