DJ Bitsy is best known in Bermuda on the house music club scene. She plays at parties across the island and was recently the house DJ for Fashion’s Night Out. DJ Bitsy is also the morning DJ on Hott 107.5, spinning energetic music to wake you up and entertaining you with her laugh. On October 18, Bitsy will fly to New York to participate in the two-day Avon Walk for Breast Cancer The walk is 39 miles and funds raised will go towards organizations who are responsible for critical research regarding all facets of breast cancer.

Thousands of women from across the US will be dressed in pink and will walk to find the cure. Bitsy decided to participate after seeing her cousins, her nana and her mother all battle breast cancer. She said the gene is “very prominent” in her family. She uses her radio platform to remind women that early detection can save lives.

Your earliest memory?

Playing with my mother’s charm bracelet one afternoon. She had a charm that was in the shape of a key and we lived in an apartment building in Ontario. I was playing “house” and decided to use the electric socket as the key hole.... well I managed to take out the power for the whole apartment building.

What were you like in school?

I was extremely shy in school.Never really had a clique, just liked to be friends with everyone, which isn’t always the easiest thing to do in elementary school. I opened up in art, music and gym classes where I excelled and in basketball and VolleyBall.

Who is your hero/heroine?

I wouldn’t say I have a hero/ heroine, but my icon is definitely Madonna. She is a big reason why music is where it is today. You see new artists emulating her all the time. I most admire her for talking about subjects that needed to be brought to the forefront such as Aids/HIV and the Gay community in the 90’s. Most recently she has been leading an Art for Freedom revolution.

Lying.

Human trait you value most in others?

Selflessness and honesty.

The Mask, quiet during the day and a fun, festive super hero at night!

An ace girl and I were having a conversation on whatsapp, but she was typing in the wrong chat....... Funny Funny stuff. I think were talking about My Breast Cancer Walk coming up and the next message I get is, “Clean up, everybody has do their share..” lol had to be there.

Closest you’ve ever come to death?

Flying into JFK and the plane skidded on the ice during landing.

To have faith and that the right cards are always in “play”. It’s whether you are awake enough to recognize them and brave enough to look at yourself in the mirror.
