'Bully' jailed over brutal attack on wife
A Pembroke man who attacked his wife by dragging her around their house by her hair in front of their child was today remanded into custody.
Aswad Wilson, 29 got into an argument with wife Jewel Wilson at 1am on October 3. The argument quickly escalated to a physical altercation.
Crown Counsel Cindy Clarke told the court Wilson grabbed his wife’s hair and ripped some of it off of her scalp and then began to strangle her by putting his arm around her neck.
“During the altercation, Wilson violently twisted the complainant’s head from side to side and banging it.
‘The sound of the commotion awoke their young child who begged Wilson to stop.”
The court heard Wilson continued to assault his wife by dragging her around by her hair and then beat her all about the body with his fists.
Jewel Wilson managed toescape to the door, but her husband grabbed her again. She finally escaped to a neighbour’s home and the police were called.
Wilson was arrested at 2:05am when police attended the scene.
Ms Clarke told the court he has previous convictions for violence.
Addressing the court, Wilson said: “I would like to say that I’m sorry. I was under the influence of drinking.
“I can’t believe that I done that. I apologised to my wife already.
“I acted like a fool. I’m trying to do better.
“I know I messed up. I shouldn’t drink.”
But Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner said Wilson had a “violence problem”.
“You are too violent to let go. Beating a woman this way, apart from criminal offences and violence is bullying.”
Wilson was remanded into custody until November 22 and pre-sentencing reports were ordered.
