The Charman Prize is back and this year the winning piece will be available for purchase. In another twist, a Collections Committee will choose and purchase one work and integrate it into the Bermudiana Collection.
As always the overall winner will take home the grand-prize of $10k courtesy of sponsor and patron John Charman, there will be four prizes of $2,500 and 12 honourable mention prizes of $100.
The invite-only event, now in its sixth year, takes place on October 11 at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art from 5:30pm.
The four judging criteria points are Design and composition — fine use of the principles and elements of design and composition; use of material — technical mastery and skill in a chosen medium; distinctive and convincing style — a highly developed quality of creativity and originality; and source of inspiration — a clear intent and vision.
Established in 2008, the Charman Prize is an annual art prize competition for local artists based in Bermuda.
The purpose of the Prize is to exhibit artwork inspired by Bermuda and to honour and support artists in the creation of their artwork.
John Charman, is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Endurance Specialty Holdings Ltd. a local businessman and

He said: “As always, it brings me great joy to sponsor the 6th Annual Charman Prize. The artistic talent on our island is outstanding.
“It is vital in a community to provide an outlet for all artists of all abilities to exhibit their artwork.”
The exhibit will be held in the Butterfield Gallery and opens to the general public beginning October 12 2013. The show will be displayed until January 1st.
