Morning Glory in PW win
There were plenty of thrills and spills at the BOCA PW’s Pursuit Race.
In breezy conditions racing an anticlockwise course around the North Channel, the Pursuit Race featured staggered handicap starts (slower boats start earlier, faster boats start later).
There are two classes: Sprit Class (Sportboat) has a bowsprit with an Asymetric Spinnaker, and Non Sprit Class (Traditional) has a Symetrical Spinnaker or Asymetrical spinnaker not flown from a bow sprit.
A total of 14 boats sailed the course but only six actually finished the race. The others were disqualified for not sailing the proper course or starting before their allotted time.
In the Sprit Class, the first boat to cross the line was Jon Corless’ J105 Mayhem but due to a timing error they were disqualified for having started too early, handing the win over to the Hasso Plattners J125 Morning Glory.
In the Non-Sprit Class, the first boat to finish was Paul Hubbard’s Oyster 435, which crossed the line with a significant lead over the second boat in the class — Dr David Roblins’ Starret 45 Lullaby.
