A 49-year-old man was today jailed for ten days after he admitted assaulting two police officers.
Sean Allen was riding a pedal bike at 4am on Saturday, November 10 on Cobb’s Hill, Warwick, when officers approached him after reports of burglaries in the area.
The court heard officers stopped him because he looked “suspicious” and “unkempt”. When they approached Allen, they informed him of the break-ins in the area and asked for his name.
Allen told them his name was Juan Trott. After officers asked him for his name a second time he tried to run away and became aggressive.
The court heard Allen started to fling his arm around and officers were forced to pepper spray him.
Allen continued to violently resist arrest and pushed the two officers down in the road.
The officers eventually arrested Allen for assault and violently resisting arrested. He was taken to the Hamilton Police Station where he said: “I’m sorry. My mother didn’t raise me to be that way”.
Addressing the court, Allen said: “I would like to apologise to the courts for my actions. I know that I was wrong.
“It was only because I knew I had warrants that I tried to get away from the police.”
He also said he is the full-time caregiver for his grandmother.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner jailed Allen for ten days each for the two assault counts and violently resisting arrest. The sentences are to run concurrent.
He also totaled $1,100 in fines for traffic offences that must be paid forthwith or he must serve another ten days in prison.
