Veteran reggae artists will descend upon Bermuda for a one-night only concert that is sure to sell out.
Veterans in Action will be held on November 10, the night before Veterans Day at CedarBridge Academy.
This year’s event will feature Half Pint, Admiral Tibet and Courtney Melody, who are all from Jamaica. Veterans in Action is hosted by Declan Harris and Rowan Ramotar.
Harris explained why the artists were chosen.
“In the spirit of the production name, Veterans In Action, we like to bring artists that were pacesetters when dancehall music was still in its infancy.
“These particular artists were and remain top acts, especially when patrons want to hear something that is soothing and reminiscent of the 80s.”
Speaking on local acts, Harris said: “Homegrown which is the backing band is a mix of local and foreign musicians. Their lead singer Mox will also perform.
“This is like a reunion for them and they are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to play again for their fans.
“There will be a few other local performances by Beenie and Hype Type as well as musical interludes by BlackStar, Prophecy, Lenky Global and Magnum Force.
“All of these sounds know what to play for the mature patrons.”
Asked why this is a must attend event, Harris said: “These artists are foundation artists. They have paved the way for many others who have followed after them.
“They all have a rich connection to the foundations of reggae from Alton Ellis to Bob Marley to Dennis Brown.
“They all sing ‘liberation songs’ which is the core of reggae music.”
He continued: “From a performance standpoint, the artists all sound as good as what you hear on the airwaves, on vinyl, CD or any other platform.
“As seasoned professionals they perform at a very high level whether it is at Rebel Salute, the Brixton Performing Arts Centre or upcoming at Cedarbridge Academy.”
Tickets are $50 in advance and can be bought at www.bdatix.bm, Kit N Caboodle, People’s Pharmacy, Belvin’s Variety in Devonshire and Happy Valley, Fish N Tings and Somers Supermart in St George’s.
