Home Affairs Minister Michael Fahy is 'closely monitoring' the case of Turkish pervert Kubilay Fidan, the Bermuda Sun can reveal.
The Minister told us he was 'fully aware' of the deportation recommendation made by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner when he sentenced Fidan earlier this month.
But he told the Sun that the matter currently rested with the courts.
Fidan admitted five offences of secretly filming five women at Miles Market between January 2012 and May 9, 2013.
The 41-year-old asked for a further 12 offences to be taken into consideration when he was sentenced to serve 30 days in prison on May 14 at Magistrates' Court.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner branded Fidan’s behaviour “repulsive and unacceptable”.
He added: “The community must be protected against him.”
Fidan was given a 30-day sentence plus an order of deportation was recommended to the Governor.
If a Magistrate decides to recommend deportation at the end of a custodial sentence he would normally write to the Deputy Governor following the trial giving details of the case and his judgement and the recommendation for deportation.
The Deputy Governor would then liaise with the Department of Corrections and the Attorney General’s Chambers to ensure that a deportation order is prepared for the Governor’s consideration.
If the Governor is satisfied that deportation is appropriate he would then instruct the Deputy Governor to order the deportation.
A Government statement said: "The Minister of Home Affairs, Senator Michael Fahy, said he is fully aware of the issue regarding Turkish national Kubilay Fidan and advised that he is monitoring the matter closely.
"However at this stage, the Minister advised that the matter currently still lies with the courts."
