Statement by Minister Wayne Scott:

Good Morning,

Welcome to all of the FIFA (The Fédération Internationale de Football Association) and BFA (Bermuda Football Association) officials, as well as to all in attendance to this FIFA Seminar on Field Maintenance.

The Ministry of Community and Cultural Development and this Government recognize the importance and the value of sports as part of the cultural fabric of our country.  Structured sports are an integral part of developing our young people, teaching them discipline, respect, and commitment.

The Government of Bermuda has had a long standing, supporting relationship with the BFA over the years and we look forward to continuing to work closely together.

Without adequate facilities, structured football would not be possible.  We are pleased that we have the National Sports Centre, with one of the best natural surfaces in CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football).  We have two synthetic surface fields, “FieldTurf”, with the BFA field and the BAA field.  We have multiple other good natural surface fields all across the Island.

We trust that this workshop, will enable you to maintain and develop great football surfaces wherever the sport is played, so that the level of football in the entire region can continue to grow and improve.

I hope that those of you that have traveled to our beautiful Island can stay on to experience the Bermuda Day activities and festivities on Friday.

With that, it gives me great pleasure to declare this seminar open.

Thank you.
