Flag Football tournament to be held
Are you ready for some football?
An American-style flag football tournament will be held at Bernard Park on June 2.
Sponsored by the Bermuda Flag Football Association, organizers are hoping enough interest will be generated by the tournament so they can host a regular league.
Scott Barnes, one of the BFFA’s organizers, told the Bermuda Sun that most Sundays there are games at Bernard Park.
“We just get together from 12 to 4… but we decided we wanted to try and get an organized event going.
“We’ve heard talk of six or seven teams coming up to play, but we want to get the word out there to get more teams.”
He said the tournament format, which is also being organized by Jordan Benevides, will see two games played on adjacent fields starting at 9am.
Barnes said four of the six players on the field will be eligible to receive passes.
The go kart champion, who also plays softball, said he became involved “when I moved back to the island and heard about it from a friend. I love football and playing sports.”
Teams will use six players on the field and can have a roster of 10 people. The cost is $200 per team, which includes lunch and rinks. Sign-ups take place at Spanish Point Boat Club on Tuesday, May 21 at 7pm. Trophies and prizes will be awarded at the end of the day.
