A Sandys Parish man appeared in court today accused of trying to smuggle a large amount of contraband into the Westgate Correctional Facility.

Tyevin Bean, 23, pleaded not guilty this morning to introducing articles into the prison including five BlackBerry cell phones, one bottle of white rum, three bottles of dark rum, six packages of Samson Tobacco, one package of tobacco, two lighters, two packs of Rizla papers, one pocket knife, two packages of protein powder and candies.

He also denied a further offence being in a prison without lawful excuse.

The offences allegedly happened in May 14.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded Mr Bean into custody until his trial on June 6.
