Man fined for swearing at police
A man who cursed at police officers who refused to give him a ride home was fined $1,000 today.
Vincent Outerbridge, 39, appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning where he pleaded guilty to using offensive words in a public place towards PC Stevens on April 26.
The court heard at 2:16pm that day, officers were on mobile patrol on Harbour Road when they saw Outerbridge walking along the road.
He had facial injuries and was stumbling as he walked east.
The officers were in the area after receiving a call about two men involved in a fight.
Outerbridge was approached by the officers, who smelled alcohol on him.
He began to shout at the officers and demanded they give him a ride home.
He said: “I pay my f***ing taxes, I pay you.”
Outerbridge was told the stop cursing but he refused and said: “F**k you, you f**king Oreo. You should be white, you ain’t f**king black.”
He was then told he would be arrested and said: “F**k you, Oreo. “
Explaining himself to the court, Outerbridge said he was “delirious” at the time after being punched in the eye by the man he was paying to drive him to work.
He also said he was under a lot of stress as his uncle has died recently and he was due to get married in August.
Outerbridge also admitted he did get into a fight with the driver.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined the defendant $1,000 to be paid by June 7.
