Bluebirds soar after opening-day win
Bluebirds sent out a warning to the rest of basketball’s CellOne Elite City League with an emphatic opening-day 40-27 win over Trinity Sound Lions.
It was a brutal introduction to the league for the expansion team, although there remains plenty of optimism in their ranks.
"It’s a work in progress and there is plenty of season left," Lions owner Lynwood Richardson said.
Bluebirds’ Anthony Mugzy Furbert and Reggie Tolosa, of Trinity Sound Lions, both racked up 15 points.
Meanwhile, Game 2 saw the Fort Knox Panthers overcome the Robin Hood Warriors 65-45.
The Panthers got off to a superb start with sharp-shooter Kevin Stevens claiming five three-pointers in the first half to earn his side a 39-17 half-time lead.
The second half period saw Jason Lowe and Kellen Beckham get on a hot streak for the Warriors, scoring 12 and 10 respectively, but it was not enough as Ronnie Beuchler bagged 10 of his 15 and Stevens chalked up another eight to keep the Panthers ahead and secure the win.
Their coach Hendrickson said: “It was a great start to the season with a win and we will be looking to keep playing well and improving week by week.”
The next games take place at Somersfield Academy Wednesday night at 6:30pm, when Storm take on Fort Knox Panthers before Bluebirds play the Warriors at 7:45pm.
