Need a kite this year and don’t want to pay a ton of money?

Head over to the Salvation Army’s Harbour Light facility where your money goes to a good cause.

The treatment centre has been running the programme since 2000 where clients make and sell kites starting at $25.

Chandra Bascome, an organizer, said: “It was an activity that one of our ex-executive directors thought of and we pulled it all together.

“A lot of the guys didn’t know how to make kites. We had someone come in and show them — Our alumni always come back and help out.”

Ms Bascome said the kites start at $25 for a standard one and $35 and up for a round kite, the same price they were 10 years ago.

She said the Harbour Light programme will have about 60 kites to sell, and she expects them to all go quickly at the bargain basement price.

“People see them in the window. I sent a mass e-mail to my address base.

Ms Bascome said sometimes they take special orders, depending on how many kite makers are available.
