When Florida Air Academy Vice President Deborah Dwight decided to visit Bermuda this month, she contacted two former students:  Shadow Parliamentarians David Burt (Minister of Finance) and Lawrence Scott  (Minister of Transport).  Both well known to the island community, they immediately offered their assistance, and agreed to act as honored guests at the school’s events.

The Melbourne, Florida, based boarding school caters to boys and girls, 6th through 12th grade, merging a superior academic college preparatory program with a military academy lifestyle.   Leadership and personal responsibility are paramount to student success, and the school has achieved a 100% college acceptance rate for seniors during the past 25 years.  For the past two years, their valedictorians have gone to Harvard University.

“Both David and Lawrence were extremely successful at F.A.A.,” says Deborah Dwight, who is the daughter of the founder of FAA, and has lived and worked on the campus for much of her life.
”I remember them both well.  David held our top leadership position, Wing Commander, and Lawrence was the Ranking Officer of Supplies.  It doesn’t surprise me that they went on to great success in their future lives.”

In addition to extensive military, sports and academic programs, FAA also partners with the Florida Institute of Technology Flight School, allowing students to take pilot training classes and earn their “wings” during their personal time.  Lawrence Scott followed that path, gaining his private pilot’s license during his senior year, and fostering an interest in flight into a college place at Embry- Riddle Aeronautical University.

Deborah Dwight and her team will be conducting admissions seminars regarding what Florida Air Academy can do for your child, at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel. Parents and students are invited to join the group on Friday 22nd March at 4.30pm, or Saturday 23rd March at 10.00am.  (David Burt will be attending the Saturday event and Lawrence Scott the Friday one.)
