A 24-year-old man today denied having a machete on him when police searched him.

Tyun Smith-Ming was this morning charged with possessing a bladed article in a public place, namely Richmond Road near the 24-hour gas station on March 8.

The court heard he was seen by officers near the gas station acting “fidgety” at 6:15pm.

The officers searched him and found a black handled machete in his pants, the court was told.

Mr Smith-Ming allegedly told the officers he was cutting grass at his mother’s house.

He was given $5,000 bail with one surety and will face trial in June.
