Devonshire Cougars have been crowned Digicel Premier League champions after North Village Rams slumped to a 3-2 defeat to Somerset Trojans at Bernard Park yesterday.

Cougars’ 1-1 draw against St George’s Colts on Friday night had raised the possibility of a tense meeting between the top two teams next weekend as a Rams victory would have left them just four points off the leaders.

However, Trojans had other ideas and two from Jonathan Bean and a winner from Leo Burgess proved too much for the title hopefuls. Clay Darrell and Peirre Smith were on target for North Village.

Cougars kicked the weekend off by going into the lead thanks to Korvon Tucker’s first-half strike but Colts’ Jarreau Hayward ensured honours were even. However, the point ultimately proved enough and Dennis Smith's team are now on for a treble, having bagged the Friendship Trophy and now the league, and with the FA Cup still a target.

Elsewhere in the division, Robin Hood were effectively relegated after a 3-2 home defeat to Dandy Town.

The Hornets were 1-0 up at half-time thanks to a strike by 19-year-old Daeshun Butterfield. Takeyhi Walker equalized with just over half an hour to go but Town were immediately ahead again as Butterfield grabbed his second. Fabian Frankson made it 3-1 before Jesse Kirkland pulled one back for the Hood.

Dennis Russell scored a hat-trick as Southampton Rangers beat Flanagan’s Onions 4-1, while PHC saw off Wolves 3-1.
