A Bermuda mom has developed a ‘must have it’ product.
In 2012, Lisa Baumgartner developed ‘Funkins’, reusable cloth napkin, which can also be used as a placemat, that is environmentally friendly and made specifically for kids.
She came up with the concept for the playful napkins after Saltus Grammar School asked parents to help reduce lunchtime waste.
Mrs. Baumgartner has been working with schools in Bermuda as well as worldwide to help promote “waste-free” lunch programmes, designed to reduce the amount of waste generated during mealtime.
Ms Baumgartner, the CEO and founder of Funkins, told the Bermuda Sun her company won the Parent Tested Parent Approved Seal of Approval last November.
At that time the PTPA hailed Funkins as innovative.
One PTPA reviewer said: “When it comes to diminishing garbage in our lives using reusable napkins is a great way to start. Funkins reusable napkins are great for every home and every family. They are durable, able to withstand just about every mess and also eco-friendly. Stop wasting money on disposable napkins when you have the opportunity to have a napkin that not only is great the first time, but hundreds of times too.”
Another added: “Funkins are a huge hit with our family… definitely a must-have product.”
A third reviewer on the PTPA site said: “The Funkins cloth napkins are extremely durable and make meal time fun for kids. They are sturdy and their colours and patterns are bold and extremely attractive to kids. We have been using these napkins for our packed lunches, as napkins at home or placemats when we are eating out. It feels great to be able to reduce our waste by using Funkins napkins. They are durable and are easily cleaned in the washer.” I love the attached name tag to each napkin so there is very little chance of getting lost at school.
Funkins was selected as one of ten exclusive brands to showcase their eco-fun children’s cloth napkins at the 2013 “Boom Boom Room” Pre Academy Awards Celebrity Kid Lounge held at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills.
The Boom Boom Room is the number one premiere gifting suite of the Academy Awards, designed to give top children’s brands access to major celebrity moms and dads and the media.
Ms Baumgartner said Funkins not only help keep little faces and hands clean, they also teach kids the responsibility of protecting the earth by limiting the use of paper goods, as well as diminishing litter.
The collection is designed with 100 per cent cotton and organic cotton high-quality fabrics, low-impact dyes, and lead and phthalate-free materials.
